Quimet & Quimet

Quimet & Quimet is one of those places that has left an indelible mark on Barcelona. Founded in 1914, this famous centennial winery is run by Quim, a member of the fourth generation of the family and great-grandson of the founder. Alongside him at the bar are his sister Joana and his wife Carmen, who contribute to the family atmosphere that defines the place.

Located in Poble Sec, one of the most iconic neighborhoods in the city, Quimet & Quimet has earned a reputation both among locals and tourists looking for authentic tapas bars to enjoy quality food. The bad news: with only 30 people, the bar is always full, so it’s advisable to arrive early or be prepared to wait.

A place with a unique identity

The small yet charming venue is adorned with over 500 bottles of wine and spirits on its shelves. Despite the extensive drink selection, what really attracts customers are the montaditos (small sandwiches) and tapas. Quimet & Quimet is one of the few bars in Barcelona without a kitchen. All the magic happens right at the bar, where tapas are prepared and served on the spot. This is one of its defining features, making the experience at the bar truly unique.

High-Quality cold tapas

The menu mainly consists of cold tapas, made with high-quality conservas (preserved foods) and gourmet products. The bar is especially known for its innovative montaditos, combining fresh and top-quality ingredients into small, flavorful bites. Some of the most popular options include the salmon montadito, the yogurt and truffle honey montadito, and the artichoke montadito with creamy Brillat-Savarin cheese and confit tomato.

Conserva lovers will also find a varied selection that is a must in any bar of this caliber. Classic options like cockles, razor clams, sardines, mojama (salted tuna), clams, tuna belly, anchovies, and boquerones (white anchovies) are always available, each made with top-quality ingredients.

Quimet & Quimet beer

One of the most distinctive features of this bar is its Quimet & Quimet beer, a craft beer brewed in-house. Available in 3/4-liter bottles or on tap, this smooth and toasted beer is brewed in collaboration with Barcelona Beer Company. It’s the perfect companion to the tapas and montaditos, and is steadily gaining popularity, even competing with the famous rosé cava also served at the bar.
