La Font del Gat is one of the most iconic spaces in Montjuïc, a small oasis hidden among the Jardins de Laribal that preserves all the essence of a popular and festive past. At the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th, this place was the setting for the famous fontades: Sunday gatherings where people would come up to Montjuïc to dance, eat, drink, and enjoy nature and music.
In 1925, the architect Puig i Cadafalch designed a unique building here to house the La Font del Gat restaurant, turning the site into a landmark meeting point of traditional Barcelona.
Today, La Font del Gat has been revitalized, recapturing the spirit of the fontades and offering a simple, Catalan culinary proposal designed for sharing in a privileged setting.
Gastronomy: Simplicity, grilled dishes, and timeless recipes
La Font del Gat’s culinary offering revolves around the grill, popular local ingredients, and dishes meant for sharing. The menu features:
- Grilled skewers and barbecue dishes.
- Croquettes and traditional tapas.
- Sunday paellas.
- Grill Menu from Friday to Sunday, featuring specialties cooked over an open flame.
- Group options with rice dishes, fideuás, cold cuts, salads, and grilled meats.
The cuisine keeps one foot in tradition and the other in the festive, social atmosphere that has historically characterized this setting. The restaurant also champions authentic sit-down breakfasts, featuring classic dishes such as:
- Cap i pota with tripe and chickpeas.
- Baked cod with samfaina.
- Pig’s trotters.
- Spicy baby snails.
- Traditional butifarras with ganxet beans.
A cuisine that revives the popular and festive character of the space, ideal for sharing with family or friends.
Cultural Program: Music, Leisure, and Garden
The new era places special emphasis on culture: live music, DJ sessions, intimate concerts, and themed events that transform the gardens into an open-air stage.
Jazz, folk, rumba, classical… Each visit can be different, but always with the same guiding thread: reviving the popular and festive atmosphere that made La Font del Gat famous.
