Les Sorts Vinyes Negres 2020 from Celler Masroig It has been awarded a Grand Gold Medal as Best Red Wine in the current edition of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, an edition that featured over 7,000 references from 49 countries around the world.
In addition to this award, the wine has also been selected as the International Red Wine Revelation of the edition, further solidifying one of Celler Masroig's iconic brands, and especially the one considered the benchmark of the category.
The jury members of the competition describe it as "an elegant and fresh bouquet that opens with notes of tobacco, chocolate, and smoke, enriched with herbal accents of rosemary. Sweet spices and hints of pepper add complexity. On the palate, a vibrant and toning acidity supports the blackberry aromas."
The 2020 vintage of this wine is particularly marked by intense heat waves. These, along with extreme thermal contrasts, significantly impacted the Cariñena variety, allowing it to fully express its Mediterranean character, offering a powerful combination of aromatic herbs with intense red fruits.
The team at Celler Masroig is very happy and satisfied with these two awards, which confirm their winemaking project, as well as the hard work of the technical and field team — a young team focused on innovation and committed to the historical varieties of the region.
About the wine
Les Sorts Vinyes Velles 2020 is a blend of Cariñena (95%) and Garnacha (5%). With 17 months of aging in new French oak barrels and an additional 12 months in bottle, the result is a cherry red wine with violet hues, offering complex aromas of red and dark fruit jams, with hints of black pepper, cocoa, and Mediterranean underbrush. The palate entry is warm, with a long and pleasant aftertaste.
The 2020 vintage has received other accolades, such as 92 points in the 2025 Peñín Guide, 95 points in the 2025 Montsant Panel Tasting by Decanter magazine, and 90 points in the Tim Atkin MW Catalan Wines Special Report 2025.
