In the heart of the El Born district, next to the iconic Mercat de Santa Caterina, you’ll find Veraz—one of those places that effortlessly blends gastronomy, design, and local culture. Located within The Barcelona EDITION, the restaurant offers honest, seasonal cuisine deeply rooted in its surroundings, in a setting that invites both relaxed meals and more special evenings.

A space that connects with Barcelona

One of Veraz’s main attractions is its space. It embraces an elegant yet welcoming aesthetic, with large windows, a striking central bar, and décor defined by Catalan art and photography.

Works by artists such as Joana Biarnés, Colita, and Xavier Miserachs reinforce this connection to local culture, turning the space into much more than just a restaurant.

Gastronomy

At its core, Veraz is all about market-driven cooking. Its concept is based on fresh, locally sourced ingredients, many of them coming from the nearby Mercat de Santa Caterina, ensuring a menu that evolves with the seasons.

Over the years, the restaurant has collaborated with different chefs, enriching its identity. Currently, chef Álvaro Salazar brings a contemporary and emotional approach to Mediterranean cuisine, elevating the experience with a more refined and creative perspective.

The menu ranges from tapas and casual dishes to more elaborate creations, including fresh catch of the day, selected meats, rice dishes, and reinterpreted traditional recipes—all united by a deep respect for the product.

We opted for the tasting menu by chef Álvaro Salazar, known for his work at VORO, awarded two Michelin stars and three Repsol suns. It’s a carefully orchestrated journey of flavors through a five-course tasting menu that reflects his culinary trajectory.

More than just a restaurant: atmosphere and experience

Veraz goes beyond food. The experience is enhanced by a strong cocktail offering, local vermouths, and craft beers, as well as live music on weekends, making it a dynamic and versatile venue.

This balance between dining, leisure, and design reflects its location within a luxury hotel, while maintaining an approachable and relaxed philosophy, far from the rigidity often associated with fine dining.

Why visit it?

Because Veraz captures the essence of Barcelona’s contemporary food scene: seasonal produce, Mediterranean cuisine with a modern perspective, and a prime location next to Mercat de Santa Caterina, resulting in a fresh and ever-changing menu. It’s a versatile spot, perfect for a relaxed breakfast, a casual lunch, or a more refined dinner.

Moreover, its setting within The Barcelona EDITION adds an extra layer of design and atmosphere without feeling overly formal. The combination of quality cuisine, a thoughtfully designed space, and its connection to the cultural life of El Born make it a highly recommended choice in the city center.
