THE RESTAURANT
It was founded in 1946 by the Plà family from Calella de Palafrugell, in the premises they had in Llafranc where the Hostal was built, which was an old sardine and anchovy salting factory owned by the Plà family. Personalities such as Kubala, Liz Taylor, Eddie Fisher, Gloria Vanderbilt, and Xavier Cugat have visited the restaurant.
The restaurant specializes in seasonal seafood cuisine, particularly rice dishes. They work with seasonal products and have their own vegetable garden with organic produce. The terrace overlooking the beach of Llafranc is the perfect setting to enjoy their gastronomy.
We decided to have a little bit of everything and ordered various dishes: Fresh Palamós prawns (in season), Burrata with rocket, tomatoes and truffle oil, and some excellent tagliatelle. For our main course, we opted for the rice dishes: Seafood Paella and the Cala Estreta Rice with crab (House specialty), both of which were simply delicious.
They have an extensive wine list that includes the wines of the Empordà D.O, the region where the restaurant is located. Other Catalan denominations of origin also have a notable presence.
